Lieberman believes that the ecology of the ocean is for each and every one of us. It is mankind’s responsibility to care and nurture the planet for the health and enjoyment of every generation to come. As a response, Lieberman has created specific works that draws attention to the toxicity of pollution; from massive oil spills, deep ocean pipelines, plastic pollution, and debris in general.
Sustainability is about attending to our own needs without compromising the ability of future generations to face their own. As well as natural resources, we also need social and economic resources. Sustainability is not just environmental-ism.
In this section, my work will be expressed through concepts, thoughts, and ideas on how we can sustain and connect with our environment.
With Insouciant Ocean Suicide Series I will be developing the idea of mankind collectively and nonchalantly committing suicide by not understanding the true urgency of our oceans and seas.
We collectively need to confront that each one of us can incorporate sustainability into our everyday way of thinking and living.

In this section Lieberman has created work that draws attention to the toxicity of pollution. From massive oil spills, deep ocean pipelines, plastic pollution, and debris in general – all is harmful and destructive.
In particular The Thin Blue Line – here Lieberman plays with the British expression, suggesting an outnumbered police force that faces the mountainous task of policing the oceans. Comparatively, The Thin Red Line catches a fish in the light of a laser, moments before a shot is fired. Both images represent human destruction within our seas.

Crown of Hooks is a statement about global overfishing. This ongoing series shows photographs distorted with mixed media, sometimes involving sculptural panels that are exhibited as diptychs.
Mankind continues to ignore the fact that by exploiting the ocean, we are hurting ourselves spiritually and physically, creating a full circle of punishment and devastation.
The photographic images are not digitally enhanced - they are worked over directly with mixed media materials, such as wax and oil. The diptychs hang as sculptural panels, carved into tar and resin.
The sequence of work called Coral Crowns, was inspired by an art residency with Tamarin Arts Centre on the island of Mauritius, 2015.
It is an ongoing series of work about the wanton destruction of the Coral Reefs to benefit easier fishing quotas.
This sequence of work is dedicated to Mauritius. The diptychs are based on their iconic Cyclones, which happens approximately every five years, and part of the Mauritian way of life. This creates a natural balancing cleaning effect of the ecological systems on the island.

Lieberman was born in Scotland and spent her childhood by the coast. On and around the tidal lochs she learnt to watch, observe and love all aspects of nature.
Through her work, Lieberman seeks to create understanding and exploration about the meaning of life and our existence. Eggs and Seeds imagery reflects themes such as birth, death, seeds, fruition and life cycles.

The cycle of birth and death are rhythms of every life.
Birth 01 and Birth 02 show bronze sculptures that merge contrasting forces of masculine and feminine. A yin and yang element is produced by an initial male impression in Birth 01, adjusting to a female impression when viewed from all angles, evident through curved form and energy of an egg birthed forth into the world. Birth 02 also reflects birth imagery, but creates an overall masculine energy by the domination of a sperm shaped structure.
Additionally, Birth 07 creates further contrasts of textures and temperatures, elaborating on the co-existing elements of the world. The sculpture features curved wood that is warm, beaver fur that is soft and a birthing egg of cold aluminum that confronts the viewer by reflecting their own image and the environment.
These pieces value and honour our life cycles, as well as the planet that entwines and connects us all.

The Expect series expresses the fertility of humankind as delicate new life is brought into the world. Beginning with two and nurtured by one, until birth instigates the time to parent together. It is the first gentle dance, the baby sways in the amniotic fluid to the mother’s rhythm.
The images show the pregnant female form, full of mother’s love, potential and sensuality - the soft curves and lines created by the promise of new life.

Trees have held a fascination for mankind since ancient times. They are symbols, they receive offerings, they hold spirits, and they are often the focal point for whole communities.
This sequence of images is about the Sylvan characters and spirits that lie within the tree, if we look long enough to find them.
